Secondary Research

As a group, we all started by brainstorming social impact topics below is a screenshot of the brainstorming activity we did with the group. We then rated our top choices to pick the one that resonated the most with us.

Three of the group’s members lived in California (San Francisco and Los Angeles) and one lived in New York, so because of that we all felt that we live in cities where the issue is quite bad.

As a group we then decided to start adding in some research to our Mural board to start creating some main topics for the mess map.

We ended choosing these 5 main areas our mess map to cover:

  1. History
  2. Causes
  3. Effects
  4. Population
  5. Reform

From there we all split up filling out the mess map itself. I worked on two sections, Reform and Effects, especially since there is an abundance of research and statistics around San Francisco homelessness and the impacts of that on the city along with the reform programs that the city has put into place.

Final Thoughts

We collaborated well as a team on the project and split up the work evenly, I ended up editing all the slides together and making it cohesive along with finishing the MLA citations for the team.

I think this was a great start for us to understand how big of an issue homelessness is in cities like San Francisco, and the overall solutions that exist, but the question is Why is this problem still existing to this extent and how can change that?

Our next step would be to do some primary research and dig deeper into issues that might be happening and find a problem we can solve with a digital experience or in person experience.
